In October 1974, the Institute started as a testing institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
In November 1976, the Institute has been designated as a specified research laboratory by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry based on the provisions of the Law Concerning Safety Assurance and Quality Improvement of Feed.
In August 1979, the construction of the main research building has begun, and research complexes have been built. (Currently, there are five research buildings, eleven barns for experiments, wastewater treatment facility and incinerators in 16,000 m2 of property).
Since 1987, the Institution has organized the GLP system.
In September 1989, the Institute was placed under the co-jurisdiction of both the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
In March 1990, the Institute has been designated as the inspection agency assigned by the Minister of Health and Welfare under the provisions of the Food Sanitation Law.
In July 2000, the Institute has been designated as a testing institution designated by the Minister of Health and Welfare to do testing for regulatory inspection in accordance with the provisions of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.
In March 2005, the Institute has been designated as the laboratory for conducting the rabies antibody test by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under the Provisions for Import and Export Quarantine of Specified Animals.
In April 2005, we started to conduct the avian toxicity tests by the GLP for industrial chemical substances.
In April 2009, we rebuilt the kennel (barn No.5 for dogs and cats) to satisfy a European animal welfare standard(Appendix A of the ETS 123).
In April 2013, re-established itself as a general incorporated foundation.
